Please book before you visit with us even when self-directing. Get in touch as early as possible to ensure we can accommodate your class. A minimum of one month's notice is required. Please refer to the booking checklist to ensure you have all the correct information to hand when making a booking. Please check within your school that the date you book for is the correct date for your visit as cancellation fees apply from the point of booking.

  • Preferred date and time of your visit and a range of possible alternatives
  • The number of pupils/ students and accompanying adults (a ratio of at least 1:10 is required)
  • The session and/or gallery rooms you require and the topics you are studying
  • The age range and ability of your pupils and any with special educational needs.
  • You will need to speak to a member of the booking team before your booking can be confirmed.

Booking availability

We are taking bookings for the 2017/2018 academic year from 10 July 2017.

Number of visits

Due to the popularity of our programmes, we can provide each school with three taught sessions for different classes each term.

Taught sessions

Join our freelance team for educator-led sessions in the gallery spaces or hands-on workshops. Book from our suggested sessions. Taught sessions led by our team of educators are available Monday to Friday during school term time

Self-directed visits

To run your own session, please contact us to book the relevant Gallery rooms you wish to visit. Please note if you book a ‘General’ self-directed visit - that does not state any specific areas of the Gallery - at particularly busy times your group may be asked to move on from certain areas of the Gallery to ease crowding. If you wish to visit the popular Tudor Galleries please state at the time of booking.

Admission charges

Admission to the Gallery is free. All taught sessions are free, unless otherwise noted. Some temporary exhibitions have an admission cost. Please ask when you book for special discount rates to exhibitions for pre-booked classes.
